According to the Lynchburg City Directory, this small building has served many purposes over the years: in 1922 this was Shumate & Ligon grocers, from 1923-1930 H.C. Ligon, grocer, from 1931-1937 Penders Stores Co. grocers, from 1938-1939 Dowdy's Cash Store, grocers, and from 1941-1942 The Rivermont Food Market. After serving for many years as a grocery store, from 1946-1952 this was Rivermont Radio Service Repairs and starting in 1955 the home of the Lynchburg Life Saving Crew which remained here though 1970. from 1971-1986 this was B.A. Langley & Co. real estate, from 1987-1990 CAT Real Estate Investments, in 1994 Nicholas Marketing & Advertising Agency and from 2004-2017 The Connecting Point, part of Rivermont Avenue Baptist Church. Since 2017 it has been owned by the Gospel Community Church.
