Early 20th-century commercial. Small, 1-story, gable-roofed comma, concrete corner gas station, with a porte-cochere and raised basement. Roof features Spanish-style terra cotta tiles and brick cornice and globe lights above corner columns.

According to the Lynchburg City Directory, the following gas stations were located at 1201 Rivermont: from 1929-1930 Watt's Super Service Station, from 1931-1944 Avenue Service Station, from 1945-1947 Henry Scruggs Filling Station, from 1948-1949 Benjamin Roethlein filling station, and from 1950-1967 the Avenue Service Gas Station. Vacant for several years, in 1974 this was Julian P.
